Local hockey referee nets top honors

Major League Roller Hockey announced that Mechanicsville's John D'Angelo has been named Referee-In-Chief of its AAA League.

League president Bill Raue said, "In many ways, John has been filling this position as a friend of the league, but this makes it official. He has pro experience at the Major League level and is in tune philosophically with our AAA league. John has always demonstrated grace under pressure and we are confident that he will set a standard for the league."
D'Angelo has been an ice and inline hockey referee and linesman since 1985. He is a charter member and immediate past president of the Richmond Hockey Officials Association.

In 1998, he was elected ice hockey Official of the Year by USA Hockey's Southeastern District. He was Virginia Referee-In-Chief for USA Hockey Inline from 1997-2000.
